Contemporary Planting Design

Bel was called in by the owners of this large country garden in early 2023, following the landscaping installation a few years prior. Large areas had been allowed for planting, and the clients were finding it difficult to cope with the sheer scale of the planting design and installation required. Having tried to plant up areas to achieve a modern look, the results had been disappointing for them, so realising they need some expert advice, design and realisation of their wishes they contacted Bel. During the Installation Consultation Bel identified some 860 sq/m of planting beds which needed designing, soil preparation and planting....

Bel created an extensive set of Planting Plans for each of the 16 areas which showed the plants Bel recommended, Mood Boards to show the style the new scheme would give, bespoke Plant Encyclopedia and a set of Maintenance Schedules so the clients could look after their garden once Bel's team had completed the planting. Bel was also asked to design a 'wild style area' within the garden and redesign a section of the space to link it to the more formal areas close to the house - see here for more information.

The bare soil needed prepping for the new planting as per Bels' Soil Specifications, so Bel's preferred landscaping team were called in and work started in summer 2024. A mass planting session was then carried out by Bel and here team of professional gardeners in September including over 2500 plants and bulbs which would provide a progression of colour, form and interest throughout the seasons, for many years to come. By June 2024, the garden was a mass of flowering plants, attracting wildlife and bringing the garden to life - see images above. Images below show the garden on the first day of the project.

Our clients are really please with the design and transformation…

After having some areas of my garden landscaped a few years ago, I wanted to develop a plan and planting scheme for the final (and largest) area. I knew that I wanted someone who really knew plants because the vast majority of the work would be soft landscaping. Bel took the time to really understand what I was trying to achieve and she came up with a plan that not only realised that superbly, but also seamlessly drew the different areas of the garden together. Working with her was extremely easy, she was able to pull in contractors as needed (who also did an excellent job, were polite and tidy) and has been back to check on her work and is always available for advice when needed. I have no hesitation in recommending Bel.”
