Country Farmhouse Planting Design

A collaboration with landscaping company Soar Valley Services Ltd, Bel was asked to design and install the planting design scheme for this large family garden. Following the major re-landscaping efforts to transform the former Farmhouse land with water features, terracing, stone walling and paving using reclaimed yorkstone, the garden was ready to plant in Autumn of 2020.   Familiar with Bel's planting design style, the clients felt confident that Bel could create a scheme which provided year-round colour and interest for each of the planting areas within the garden.

The clients had moved from an established garden and brought with them several Roses and Hydrangeas which were incorporated into the scheme, alongside evergreen shrubs, ornamental grasses and colourful perennials for a splash of colour throughout the seasons. One area of ground was particularly damp, so this gave Bel the opportunity to create a border filled with damp tolerant plants such as Hostas, Ferns, Irises, Lythrum and Carex.  The warm farmhouse wall backed raised bed gave the perfect opportunity to plant a sun loving Fremontedendron 'California Glory' underplanted with Agapanthus.

A raised pathway provided room for herbs close to the house and the walled kitchen garden. Lavender is due to be planted along the curved wall later this year, which will provide a wonderful scent when seated on the patio in the summer months.  Completed in Autumn 2020 this garden is one to watch, as it develops and softens as the planting fills out. The clients are very happy with the results and enjoy using the space.
