Outdoor Entertaining Garden Design

This garden had been ideal for the clients whilst their son was small and kicking a ball about, but as he was using the garden less and less the clients decided now was the time to claim the space as their own. A new build property, the garden was the classic l shaped space with lawn and a narrow strip of concrete slabs to the rear. The clients wanted to make the most of the sunniest spot tucked into the corner and wanted ideas for the area hidden behind the garage wall. As the rear of the house faces North it was clear to Bel that the seating areas needed to be away from the shadow the the house and the nook behind the garage would lend itself well to a Snug Area for cosy evenings warmed by a Fire Pit.

With several access points leading into the garden including French doors, Garage door, 2 side gateways and the need to provide dry pathways around the garden, Bel designed a pathway which connected each of these, wrapping around the rear of the property and leading to the sunny Dining area and Snug. This allowed for a horseshoe shaped lawn edged with pavers to give definition and to make mowing easier.

Planting Beds to the right, rear and left boundaries offers year-round colour and interest, with shade loving plants tucked at the base of the garage and a lattice of support wires enabling flowering climbers to green up the dull wall.  The Snug area would have an assortment of planters planted with some of the clients favourite types of plants Bamboo and Japanese Acer for a hint of the Orient.

Bel tackled the front garden too which was a simple grassy strip, but as it baked in the sunshine all day long, the lawn struggled and looked tatty. So looking to improve the kerb appeal of the front space and add lots of colour to brighten up the frontage, Bel designed a space with low maintenance gravel with a Corten steel edging, trellis on the front walls for climbers and colourful planting beds for year round splashes of colour.

Designed in June 2021 - see the 3D visuals above, the Landscaping was carried out the following Spring and the planting installed on a very snowy day  in March!  Just a couple of months on the garden is flourishing and the clients are loving their new garden.

Our clients are really please with the design and transformation…

"We asked Bel to design both our front and rear gardens from scratch. She listened to our needs and requirements and came up with a plan to match. Bel completed the initial design, subsequent planting plan and all the planting when the construction was complete. She has left us with a planting plan showing where each plant is located, descriptions of each plant and maintenance schedules. We can’t wait to enjoy the garden in the summer and see all the flowers in bloom!

Bel has been courteous, professional, and clear with all her dealings. The designs were exactly what we wanted and have been executed to high standard. Her communication and support throughout the design, construction and planting has been superb, and we are delighted with the outcome. I would highly recommend Bel and her work."
