Traditional Planting Design

Bel started work on this project in October 2021, a large garden in Loughborough, with a traditional layout, but a few more modern features added by the clients, including an  Outdoor Kitchen, Gym and Summer House. The clients were finding the existing planting lack lustre and difficult to manage and their gardeners were spending all of their time weeding. What was needed was a planting scheme to add a dramatic and long lasting display with low maintenance requirements.

Bel suggested making the existing planting beds larger to allow for a bolder display and room for a longer lasting succession of interest. The clients embraced the idea and Bel started to create a Planting Design Package using a selection of traditional trees, shrubs and perennials with high impact but low maintenance needs. Bel also provided a Soil Improvement Specification which the clients were able to implement themselves, to prepare the ground ready for planting.

Phase 1 of the project saw Bel and her Team of professional gardeners install 1000 plants in November of 2022, to allow the planting to settle in before the spring season. Following the successful establishment, Bel went on to design and install phase 2 in 2023 - a shaded area of the garden, needing clearance and a tolerant selection of shrubs and perennials to give year-round interest. With a well considered selection of plants and excellent ground prep, the plating established very well and has given the clients the real wow factor they were looking for.

Our clients are really please with the design and transformation…

After having some areas of my garden landscaped a few years ago, I wanted to develop a plan and planting scheme for the final (and largest) area. I knew that I wanted someone who really knew plants because the vast majority of the work would be soft landscaping. Bel took the time to really understand what I was trying to achieve and she came up with a plan that not only realised that superbly, but also seamlessly drew the different areas of the garden together. Working with her was extremely easy, she was able to pull in contractors as needed (who also did an excellent job, were polite and tidy) and has been back to check on her work and is always available for advice when needed. I have no hesitation in recommending Bel.”
