Contemporary Cottage Garden Design

Back in May 2019 Bel was contacted by the owners of a large 1930's period property which was undergoing a huge renovation project. Already underway but with plenty of building work still to come, Bel visited the site to discuss the clients requirements.  Keen garden lovers, the couple were looking to transform the wrap around garden, creating a contemporary garden  to the rear, a traditional formal entrance at the front of the property, in keeping with the characterful nature of the surrounding properties and a driveway and utility are to the side.  Having had their previous garden designed for them many years previously, they understood the design process and could realise the great potential for the space.

At the rear, paved seating areas were designed to make the most of the morning and evening sun and provide an entertaining area just outside the new bi-fold doors. A bespoke pergola spans the cosy seating area adding a focal point and privacy from the neighbours. The modern layout of paving and planting allowed for an arc of lawn, much loved by the families dog!

The clients were looking for a 'contemporary cottage' style planting scheme, with lots of soft pastel colours, roses, and flowering shrubs for year-round colour and interest. A selection of columnar trees were also planted to provide some screening from the neighbours without causing too much shade.
