Courtyard Garden Design

Bel was contacted by the owner of this garden back in  March 2022, when he had just received the keys to his Cottage style property on a private development close to the River Soar.  The garden was a simple rectangle of lawn, with a few over grown trees and a small area of paving - see below. The client had great ideas and vision for the space - wanting to create an entertaining space to enjoy with friends and family, with an Outdoor Kitchen, Bench Seating, Fire Pit, Snug Area, Water Feature and Planting. Key to the look would be the selection of top quality materials along with skilled craftsmanship to produce a high quality finished product.

Bel set to work creating the 3D Designs for the space, utilising every centimetre of the small plot as space was at a premium.  Clever dual use of the bespoke timber benching allowed for storage of seat covers beneath the seats etc. With a healthy budget to work with, Bel incorporated quality times such as the Bespoke Water Feature from Urbis Design, An Outdoor Kitchen from Grillo Living and a Wall Screen from Charles and Ivy.

To tie into the cream-buff brick work of the property and to give a warm feel to the space, Bel selected natural Walling Stone for the bench seating from CED Stone and Pre-sealed Sandstone Paving from London Stone which worked together well. Sandstone sets in a darker hue create a subtle threshold between the two areas of the courtyard. To provide further division between the Dining Area and the Snug Area, Bel designed bespoke powder coated metal Arches installed within the planting areas to offer a sense of enclosure, with out overly dominating the space.

Hard wood Iroko timber was used to screen the existing rear fence and for the bench seating, giving a long lasting and quality feel to the garden. Specimen Olive trees were planted along with scented climbers and textural foliage plants for a low maintenance, long lasting display of greenery. We look forward to seeing the planting fill out and soften the hard landscaping elements over time. And we hope that the Client will enjoy entertaining in his new stylish courtyard.
